Our Economic Impact

Catalysing economic development

We aim to catalyse economic growth and diversification in Qatar and the region by linking local businesses to FIFA World Cup 2022™ value chains and innovation opportunities. We also aim to facilitate the development of tournament sites, related infrastructure and services that enable future events, attract new business ventures and address relevant community needs.

The three material sustainability topics that were identified for this economic pillar are as follows:

Local and regional business development

We enable local and regional businesses to become suppliers for the event and prioritise local and regional sourcing. To promote local development, we contribute to the empowerment of local innovators and entrepreneurs.

Post-tournament sites and asset use

In order to create long-term social, environmental and economic impact, we planned our stadiums, training sites and assets with a long-term community and business use in mind.

Adaptability of infrastructure and services

We promote the use of adaptable, efficient technologies and solutions to address demand variations before, during and after the event. This includes smart solutions to respond to demands during the event but also to create long-term economic impact.
