The Cultural Experience programme supports the organisation and delivery of a series of cultural events in partnership with Qatar’s cultural sector.
Events highlight key aspects of Arab culture and heritage and provide a forum for dialogue and cultural exchange among participants, attendees, and local communities in the lead up to the tournament.
During the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, a series of interactive installations and events in Moscow and Saint Petersburg were organised to showcase Qatar as a prime cultural and sporting destination and bring the country’s unique tournament concept to life.
In Moscow, the flagship installation, Majlis Qatar, was a pop-up space resembling ‘bayt al sha'ar’ – tents historically used by nomadic peoples in Qatar and the Gulf region. The space was used to host the public, media and VIPs and showcase Qatari hospitality. Other events included a floating multimedia museum located on the Moskva River, used to introduce visitors to Qatari history and culture, as well as Qatar’s hosting plans. A series of digital portals were also placed across Doha, Moscow and Saint Petersburg to allow fans to interact between the cities via live video feeds.
In 2019, the SC organised several locally inspired performances at seven major national and international events including the Confederation of African Football Super Cup, the Al Janoub Stadium opening in May, Copa America and the annual UN Day Concert. These cultural activations were also organised in 2020 and 2021 at events including the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium inauguration, the 2021 CAF Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup 2020™.
