FIFA Fan Festival™ and fan zones
Initiative description: Delivering a set of FIFA Fan Fests™ and fan zones which will provide spectators with customised, festive, exciting, and secure destinations where they can enjoy matches free of charge while also enjoying authentic Qatari hospitality and cultural experiences.
The FIFA Fan Festival™, a major temporary entertainment area where fans will be able to watch matches on giant screens and participate in a wide range of cultural and educational experiences, will provide an exciting environment for engaging all types of attendees at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Delivering the FIFA Fan Festival™ will generate various sustainability impacts. That’s why sustainability requirements have been included in the FIFA Fan Festival™ strategy, in event concepts, manuals and procedures, and in documents used for procurement of service providers.
The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019™ also saw the organisation of a Fan Zone offering local and international fans an opportunity for entertainment (due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no Fan Zone was possible during the FIFA Club World Cup 2020™). At the Fan Zone, matches were displayed on large screens and artists from around the world, including a Brazilian samba group, a Mexican mariachi band and international DJs entertained the crowd. In addition, Qatar’s diverse mix of international communities shared their traditional songs and dances on stage. The venue offered a festive, safe and secure atmosphere with a vast array of food and beverage stalls and fun-filled football themed activities. Entry to the Fan Zone was free, and attendees were able to enjoy it during the tournament from 2pm to midnight. Shuttle buses were available to transport match ticket holders from the Fan Zone to the stadiums and back. In addition to the Fan Zone, Fan Entertainment Areas were set up at both tournament venues – Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium and Khalifa International Stadium – during the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019™. The entertainment areas opened three hours before kick-off on each match day and featured a host of fun activities for fans before matches.
