Outplacement support for employees

Initiative description: Providing outplacement support to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ employees whose contracts and duties with FIFA, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC (Q22) and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) offices will end following the close of the tournament and the completion of their job responsibilities. This programme aims to support employees’ job searches and professional reorientation, and to facilitate where possible their transition to suitable positions within associated industries such as construction, sports and events industries in Qatar and internationally.

Outplacement services were provided in 2022 to support colleagues who worked on the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ further develop their careers after the delivery of the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC (Q22) programme consisted of multiple steps. The first step was to invite employees to complete an extensive survey to understand their preferences and collate career-related information, including their CVs. Around 700 employees of 70 different nationalities showed an interest and responded to the survey. The data collected was separated into two categories: employees who wished to remain in Qatar and those who wished to work elsewhere (those who were open to both remaining in or leaving Qatar were added to both lists).  The subsequent talent pool lists were then sent to organisations that aligned with the employees’ stated preferences with the aim of facilitating their next career move. A CV review service was also offered to colleagues, whereby the Q22 recruitment team provided feedback to employees that opted into the service to help them secure their next role.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) provided career development services for Qatari national employees. The programme was aimed at equipping employees to capitalise on their acquired skills and experience, obtain greater clarity on their career aspirations and position themselves as attractive candidates for future opportunities. Providing one-on-one career coaching and assessment, the programme supports over 150 national employees transition out of their current role, to suitable positions in associated industries such as construction, sports and major events. Secondees were also a key part of the SC workforce. Approximately 300 Qatari secondees and secondee attachments will return to their positions with a wealth of sports management and events knowledge gleaned from their experience over the last several years with the SC.

A large number of employees from Q22 and SC have been recruited for the upcoming 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar.

While a less formalised approach than that of Q22 and the SC, Functional Areas at FIFA have hired staff that worked at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Individuals were offered opportunities, whether as a full-time FIFA Staff members or as FIFA Freelancers, to support during FIFA’s 2023 tournaments and events, including the FIFA Club World Cup™ in Morocco, The Best Awards in France, the 73rd FIFA Congress in Rwanda, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ in Australia and New Zealand.
