Educators’ toolkit (Tamreen)

Initiative description: Providing a free educators’ toolkit, with resources that teachers, parents and coaches can use to complement any educational curriculum for young people with material related to the preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. The toolkit covers a diverse range of topics from public transport to the importance of healthy lifestyles, and building football stadiums to promoting sustainability.

Tamreen - which is Arabic for “exercise” - is an online educational programme available to all schools in Qatar, and accessible to users all around the world. The programme was developed by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) in collaboration with Qatar’s Ministry of Education to provide resources for teachers, parents and coaches, focusing on the preparations for, and legacy of, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Launched in March 2019, the programme uses the excitement around the tournament to inspire young people to develop core educational skills in areas such as mathematics, science, social studies, geography, history, citizenship, art, Arabic, English, science and technology, design and physical education.

The Tamreen online platform offers educational resources such as videos, games, quizzes, and toolkits to help students aged 8-18 develop skills in core curriculum areas – all aligned to the national curriculum – while gaining an understanding of the SC’s development goals and the legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ through fun and flexible lesson plans.

Tamreen resources

Tamreen toolkits include lesson plans, activity sheets, videos, presentations and fact sheets designed specifically with young people in mind. They support parents and teachers to communicate important features of the tournament and the legacy programmes to students, while meeting educational goals.

A total of 40 toolkits were made available in eight different fun themes including tournament preparation, stadium-related sustainability, and tournament legacy. A specific accessible toolkit was also developed for students with cognitive disabilities. In addition, 212 resources and 70 quizzes were made available, covering areas such as stadium design and innovative cooling technologies, as well as legacy initiatives including Generation Amazing, Challenge 22, accessibility, an exploration of workers’ rights in Qatar and the volunteering programme.

Key engagement statistics (1st March 2019 – 31st Dec 2022)

  2. The winning bid: students submitted a bid to compete to host an international sporting event.

  3. Showcase sport in your community: students submitted videos or pictures showcasing sport in communities all over the world.

  4. Design a mascot: students designed a mascot, character or ambassador that represented Qatar and welcomed football fans from around the world.
